Better Housing Solutions
Our Founding Statement
Better Housing Solutions is a newly created 501(c)(3) that was born from a desire to provide for a need the founder saw for her students and their families. As a special education teacher working with students who have severe disabilities, she saw the lack of affordable housing options for adults with various disabilities in our area. After talking to parents, she realized many plan to care for their children at home until they no longer can. Our community can do better. Homes that have 24-hour staff in our county are limited and only available for individuals who have a Medicaid waiver. Waitlists for Medicaid waivers can take years-sometimes a decade.
Our goal is to buy, build, and renovate homes that allow adults with disabilities to live safely, affordably, and in their own hometowns, close to family and friends. We will start with one group home for those needing 24-hour care and expand to create independent living units by 2028.
